dream - a mixed media canvas

First of all, I need to tell you that this IS NOT my original idea, but my version of artwork designed by the amazing Christy Tomlinson.   Here is a link to her blog post featuring this project.  Christy's Mixed Media Kits are full of all sorts of amazing goodies and each month she shares a video of her creating something with all of the fun items in that months kit.  You can watch her creating her canvas here and be sure to watch all of her other YouTube videos.  They are great and I have learned so much by watching them!

I made this canvas as a gift for my secret pal and I had a lot of fun doing it...there's really nothing better than gluing down bits and pieces and rubbing paint around with my fingers....

(p.s. look at my hydrangeas!  They are as big as a soccer ball!)

And, while outside taking these pictures I was able to get a shot of our momma meadowlark feeing her sweet babies in our front tree.  There are four of them and they sound so sweet....

I stood out by our mail box for at least 15 minutes waiting for her to come back and I'm sure that my neighbors and all passerby's were thinking that I was quite strange. lol  Some lady, standing by mailboxes, holding up a camera with a long, zoom lens pointed at a tree for 15 minutes....lol  Oh well.  I love our meadowlarks and so happy that they have chosen our front tree to raise their family. ;-)

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful day today.....

icad2 - day 7 (catching up...)

I've been waiting and waiting to work on my card for Day 7 and I was finally ready to tackle it.  June 7th was my 20th wedding anniversary, so I wanted to do a card especially to help recognize that special day.  Then I waited and waited and had no ideas, but decided to work on it today......

I tried to do an image transfer with gel medium but for some reason it just decided to not work for me today, so I ended up adhering the clipped image from a magazine right onto the tag.  No, that is not me and my husband! lol

You can watch me create this card here.....

icad2 - day 22

I had a lot of fun with this card....I used two different kinds of image transfer....packing tape and gel medium.  I am anxious to use the gel medium technique again, because I really love the soft effect you get when using it with clippings from magazines.

You can watch me create this card here.

icad - day 21 - step by step art

I've been wanting to make this one for days....after I saw "Rock of Ages" last weekend I knew that I just had to make a card about it.  It's just taken me this long to kind of decide what to do.  I say kind of, because I really didn't know what I was going to do, but I had pulled a few music inspired items to possibly use on this card.  No video again, but pictures were taken along the way....

Pile of odds and ends to possibly use.....

Adhered a few things down with mat medium....words, wings, t-shirt and photo of band were clipped from a magazine.....

add some letter stickers to finish the phrase.....

rub around the edges of the card w/ black ink.....

draw around the words with a black pen.....

what's the 80's w/o hot pink and lime green? lol  added some color with acrylic paints and a stamp....

and here's the finished card!

ROCK ON!!!!!

icad2 - day 18

Ugh.  I really, really struggled with this card!  It just didn't want to come to be and I hate it, but I had to push to get this one done.  I know these are supposed to be low-stress art projects, but still....it just didn't want to look the way I thought it should.  So, I finished it, put it in my pile of completed cards and moved on to the next one!  It had been a couple of days since I had done any art, so I don't know if I just wasn't in the right mood or what, but after I finished this one, I started on my Day 20 card and was much, much more happy with it.  Like everything else, I have my good art days and my bad art days.  I'm still glad that I worked on something that day, because even though it was a struggle, doing a little something creative each day sure helps me keep my head on straight. lol

I did make a video of me creating this card and you can watch it here.  After I let this one sit for a bit, I ended up adding some blue Jacquard Lumiere paint and sprayed it with some water.  Looks a little bit better but I just can't help but think that this one is missing something.....oh well. lol

icad2 - day 20 - step by step art

Well, I've gotten totally out of order with sharing my cards here, but oh well. lol  The weekend threw me off and now I'm kind of playing catch up. ;-)

I wasn't able to do a video of me creating this card, but I did take some photos along the way.....

A friend gave me a ton of Creative Memories alphabet stickers, so I decided to put some of them to good use....

Painted on a couple of light layers of gesso....

Added some self-adhesive drywall tape (because it just so happened to be sitting there on my counter from working on a previous card)

Pulled out some paints to use and my spray bottle of water.....

Rubbed them around on the card and sprayed with some water.....

Patted all of that extra painty-goodness onto a blank page in my art journal (waste not what not! lol)

Color wash and an alphabet stencil along the edge (the calander page is there to protect the other half of the card from random spray)

I had pulled out this orange acrylic paint and it had been sitting there the whole time unused....time to use it....

Stamped Suzi Blu's Pretty Girl stamp onto a blank card....

Colored her in with Prisma colored pencils and Inktense pencils.....

Adhered her onto the card with mat medium along with "are you dreaming" that was clipped from a magazine

Covered her face and the words with scraps of paper to avoid splatters of white paint from getting on those parts.....

And here it is....all done!  I really like all of the texture on this one....

especially where you can see the letter stickers...I know I will be doing this again and I can't wait to try it on an art journal page!

And, as always, be sure to visit Daisy Yellow to learn all about icad2012!

Thanks so much for visiting!

icad - day 16 - step by step art

I wasn't able to video making todays card, but I did snap some pictures along the way to share with you.  I was cleaning things up in my closet the other day and I found this fabric clothing tag that I'd stashed away to use in a project.  So, there's no better time than the present, right? lol  I found a few other things to go along with it and here's what I came up with....

Mod Podge on book paper that I've been spraying onto from other projects and the fabric, clothing tag....

two colors of brown, acrylic paint with a stencil....

added some red color spray because the brown didn't work as well as I wanted it to....

then added some white color spray because things were getting too dark for me....

found this paper w/ the quote on it that worked perfect with the tricycle stamp....

still too dark for me, so I added some white drippage....because I love drippage lol....went around the edges w/ black ink....

Mod Podge on the paper elements and added some white acrylic paint w/ some bubble wrap....

and here's the finished card:

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope that you're enjoying icad 2012 as much as I am!  I really need to sit down one night and visit everyone's blogs, flickr, etc...I know that I am missing out on loads of amazing art work that everyone else is doing.  Oh, and be sure to visit Daisy Yellow to learn all about icad2!

icad2 - day 15

This was a fun and quick card that I put together for Day 15.  I used the piece of notebook paper that I had placed on top of a stencil covered w/ Tumble Dye spray on my  Day 16 card.  I always place my sprayed-on stencils on some sort of paper (book, music, notebook, etc) or into my journal on blank pages.  If you just leave it there, all of that inky goodness transfers onto the paper and you have something new and colorful to use in another project.  It's great to do in my journal, because sometimes it gives me inspiration for a art journal page or just relieves the stress of opening up your journal and looking at a blank page....thinking....hum...what to do?  Having a bit of color there says, "Hey, look! add more to me!" Well, that's what it says to me. lol

So, I really loved the notebook paper and didn't want to cover it up too much.  I just added a felt heart, a couple of pieces of tape, splatters of paint...not much else.

I made of video of me creating this card and see it here. You can watch my videos at my YouTube page and be sure to subscribe so that you will receive an email each time I upload a new video. ;-)

icad2 - day 14

I'm having lots of fun finding things in my piles of "stuff" that I've been hoarding and using them on my icad2 cards.  This one uses an ad for Sally Hansen nail polish.  I love all of the colors on this ad and I'm really loving how this one turned out!  I used gel medium to do an image transfer onto the index card.  I let the card sit overnight and then rubbed water onto the card w/ my finger to remove the paper.

I've also been using up bits and pieces of book paper that I've been spraying onto while working on previous cards.  For this card, I first sprayed on some Tumble Dyes and placed a piece of notebook paper on top of the stencil to soak up all of that extra spray.  I just can't waste that stuff! lol  I loved how it turned out and ended up using that notebook paper as the base of my card for Day 16.  I'm really trying to use up what I have and recycle odds and ends that I stumble upon.

You can watch me create this card here.  Be sure to visit my YouTube page and subscribe.  You will get an email each time I add a new video.  :-)

I saw "Rock of Ages" last night and I'm trying to come up with an idea for today's card to remember last night by.  I am a total 80's junkie!  But have to admit that I was into the "new wave" scene and not the hair band's. ;-)  I still thought that movie was lots of fun and it sure did bring back some memories! lol

I hope you all have a wonderful day today!  We are going to hit some antique stores today and I'm hoping to find some neat ephemera to use in my mixed media art.

God Bless!
